I was able to reprice our 2nd ticket on the Ipad at the 5685 points price. I tried a different browser and did the search w/o being logged on to my SW account and yep, still at 7627 points!ĮDITED TO ADD- So I just did the search on my Ipad w/o being signed in and the flight there is priced back at 5685. Now the same flight is priced at 7627 points!!!! Like 2mins after I completed the previous change! The first ticket was changed and my RR account reflects the new points used and the refund of the orig points used.Īll's good, right? So I go on to do the same for the 2nd ticket of our party of 5. I had originally used 8327 points and it dropped down to 5685. I just did the "change" process for one of our tickets. With the schedule changes when the airline makes a change to your flight you are entitled to a free change to any other flight that you like better (within 14 days of your scheduled flight and with the same city pairs) you can give reservations a call at 80 and they should be able to assist in getting you on the flight you like better. Sounds like you jumped the gun and already made the change, wish I could have helped you out beforehand so you wouldn't have lost EarlyBird.OK. EarlyBird would remain on the reservation and you would receive credit for the price difference as you were originally trying to do. I was always a little apprehensive when doing this, as there was always a chance that the seats could be lost because other flyers might grab the seat before you could complete rebooking the flight. Due to COVID-19 prices for flights and hotels have been dropping across the board, this is a friendly reminder to check for price drops and rebook where possible. You need to cancel and rebook though and it’s only for stays until April 30th, 2020. Alternatively, if you have EarlyBird and don't want to cancel because you lose EarlyBird (as you did) you could violate the "rules" of the free change and change your flight to a flight with a different city pair that does not qualify for a free change, then change it back to the actual flight you want to take. Southwest fares can change and I have cancelled flights and rebooked at a lower cost on numerous occasions. Update 3/12/20: It’s possible to now do this on advance purchase bookings for both IHG & Hilton. Having this option available does seem to prevent someone from repricing their flight to a lower fare (as you saw).Īs you did, you could cancel the flight, take the credit, then rebook the flight at the lower price leaving you with the credit you were initially looking for. You keep the fare difference as credit, to be applied toward future travel in 12 months (be sure to write down the old confirmation number). Southwest’s no-change-fee policy means if the fare goes down, you can cancel the tickets and rebook the same flights at a lower fare. Yes, now I have even more travel funds to somehow use but so be it.īecause of schedule adjustments currently underway, similar to what has been happening when the schedule is revised to remove the Max aircraft, people with existing trips are offered the option to switch to any flight with the same/nearby city pairs. Fares change after you book, both up and down. I weighed the pros and cons and ended up cancelling the original (losing Early bird money) and rebooking. We recently flew KC to Vegas and the return flight varied from 100 to 157. You can rebook at a lower fare and you keep the difference as a credit to use on a future flight. Another customer benefit is that there is no change of flight fees, meaning you only need to pay the difference of the cost of the tickets. So, it appears that due to the much lower rates being offered now SWA is losing even more money and changing their policies to be more restrictive. Another thing to consider is Southwest fares for the same flight vary a lot from day to day, so it pays to continue to check even after you’ve booked. Some people don’t like to use computers and prefer to talk to a representative. I was also presented with an agreement selection that I had to select the same departure and arrival airports (which of course I intended to). Use the Phone to Get a SouthWest Price Drop Refund. Today, I attempted to modify a booking for next week and was NOT presented with an option to save money - only to select available flights thus NOT receiving travel funds for the difference in price. Yesterday I was able to rebook flights to different dates and as a result saving money from original purchase price. It seems the rebooking process and issuance of travel funds is different today than yesterday. I find this community to be a wealth of information so thank you to all that help the rest of us.
